Updated 7/29/22. Despite best efforts, some information may be out of date. Please report inaccuracies to namechangeCA@notsocheezy.com with the subject line, "Name Change Information Update".
Certain information here applies to all California residents, while others apply to those born in California. Be advised that your birth certificate must be reissued from the government of the place you were born, which unfortunately may not always be possible.

Fee Waiver (FW-001, FW-003) if you qualify. If you do, request 10+ Certified Copies on the day of your hearing, as they are $25 each afterwards.
"Ask the court clerk to obtain a judge's signature on the Order to Show Cause, then file the original order in the clerk's office and obtain filed-endorsed copies of the order."
If challenged, cite SB-179 (Gender Recognition Act)
For help filling forms, visit www.transgenderlawcenter.org. Many can be done via PDF, meaning you only have to type your deadname a minimum amount of times. As a general rule, the deadname is used unless specified.
Reportedly, in person hearings are no longer required for name and gender changes. YMMV
